Gloria Adams Art

Hurricanes, floods, fires, dwindling species and habitat destruction, harsh political rulings and life-changing social events.

Deep Breath.

Environmental distruction and human inequality are expressed in my work which is inherently political, as we live in a political world, but never overtly so. My paintings use animal symbolism arranged based on the individual and universal meaning that the animal embodies, often reflecting the animal’s natural character and many roles. Horses and elephants have positive meaning associated with them and so they are often used as a benevolent symbol in my work, while a flock of birds may be more diverse and can mean many things. Together a flock is one voice but separately some are parasitic and steal other species’ nests, killing their offspring. Some return to the same home every year but fly hundreds of miles before they reappear. Pigeons are so common that we don’t respect them as the doves that they are.

In addition to painting, I create puppets, wooden furniture and assorted other crafty things. This work is more lighthearted and playful. Finally, during the day I teach college and high school classes. Please check out my portfolio and the work that my students have done.
